    Description

    Very nice Civil War period (1860's) Fire Department coat button. Most of these that you find are late 1800's, with earlier ones being relatively scarce. This example is silver-washed, and bears the "EXTRA QUALITY" backmark, which is commonly seen on Civil War period buttons (see Bazelon & McGuinn: American Military Button Makers and Dealers).
    The button remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Silver wash shows tarnish and finish loss. Shank is intact. Please see pictures for more detail.
